The DVD+RW Alliance was one of the sponsors of WinHEC
2003, Microsoft's annual systems and peripherals conference.
Some 2500 companies traveled to New Orleans to participate
in the four-day event. The Alliance distributed fact sheets
with the latest information on the format to all WinHEC
participants. This document can be found in the Leaflets
and Tip Sheets sections of the website.
The Alliance Booth enjoyed steady traffic and attendees
had an opportunity to view real-time demonstrations of
the DVD+RW format's Mt. Rainier capabilities. This demonstration
was particularly timely in light of Mt. Rainier's anticipated
role in facilitating the built in Windows support announced
by Microsoft during the conference. The Alliance also demonstrated
the benefits of a new Serial ATA connection that enables
uses to quickly and easily download video footage from
a digital camcorder to a personal computer.
In addition to the demonstrations shown at the Alliance
Booth, the Alliance provided a 20-minute theatre presentation
on the benefits of the DVD+R/+RW format, focusing on its
superior functionality, simplicity and compatibility. Frank
Simonis, commercial director, Philips Optical Storage,
represented the Alliance in a panel discussion on the writable
DVD's and the future of DVD recording.
