ECMA INTERNATIONAL APPROVES DVD+RW SPECIFICATION AS AN
OFFICIAL STANDARD FOR DVD RECORDING
LAS VEGAS - ECMA International, a worldwide standards-setting
organization for information and communications systems,
has approved the DVD+RW specification as an official standard
for DVD recording, the DVD+RW Alliance announced today.
"This vote affirms what we've seen in consumer markets
over the past year," said Maureen Weber, worldwide
chair of the DVD+RW Alliance's Product Promotions Group. "We've
seen a rapid increase in market share for DVD+RW products,
and expect the ECMA action will foster even broader adoption
of the +RW format worldwide."
ECMA's member companies, which include some of the biggest
names in the optical storage industry, voted overwhelmingly
to approve the DVD+RW specification as ECMA Standard 337.
ECMA was formed in May 1961 to set standards, recognized
worldwide, for information and communications systems.
