INTERVIDEO LAUNCHES WINDVD PLATINUM
New Version Of World's Most Popular DVD Player Adds 96kHz
/24bit Audio, DivX Video Support And Dolby Virtual Speaker
To Let Users Watch DVDs In Full Surround Sound With Only
Two Speakers
FREMONT, Calif.-December 3, 2002-InterVideo, Inc. today
launched WinDVD Platinum, the latest version of the world's
most popular DVD-playing software, which includes a number
of new features including DivX™ support, making WinDVD
Platinum the ultimate way to watch DivX movies. The new
software is also the first DVD player to include Dolby
Virtual Speaker Technology, a brand new technology from
Dolby that replicates rich, surround sound audio over only
two speakers.
Home theater surround systems normally use five speakers:
three across the front and two surround speakers on the
sides. Until now, users with less than 5 speakers could
not enjoy full home theater surround sound, but Dolby Virtual
Speaker technology changes all that. Dolby Virtual Speaker
technology uses an advanced psychoacoustics algorithm to
create over two speakers, or more, the same surround effect
produced by a multichannel system. Audio channels are processed
through advanced "filters" that simulates the
sonic signature of a speaker located within an acoustic
space. By re-creating these waveforms, as they would be
heard from real speakers, it is possible to experience
a very realistic sensation of 5 discrete sound sources
over 2 speakers.
"We're delighted that InterVideo has included Dolby
Virtual Speaker technology in the WinDVD Platinum DVD player," said
Greg Rodehau, director of PC and Gaming Technology, Dolby
Laboratories. "Dolby Virtual Speaker technology creates
a rich, immersive multi-channel audio experience, using
just two speakers. With Dolby Virtual Speaker Technology
PC users can experience new levels of entertainment, when
a multi-speaker set-up is not practical."
In addition to Dolby Virtual Speaker functionality, WinDVD
Platinum also includes several new features not found in
any other version of WinDVD including: Movie Effector and
advanced de-interlacing for higher quality video, docking
capabilities, new skins and support for 96 khZ/24 bit audio
- which produces high-resolution sound for audiophiles.
"The exciting new features rolled out by InterVideo
provide further evidence of the creativity and innovation
that has made WinDVD Platinum the world's best and most
popular software DVD player," said Jordan Greenhall,
co-founder and CEO of DivXNetworks. "The addition
of DivX video support will provide a complete multimedia
package on the desktop, allowing consumers to easily play
back DVD-quality DivX files in all their full-screen, full-motion
glory."
"InterVideo is constantly looking for and inventing
new ways to make our software more useful and powerful," said
Steve Ro, founder and CEO of InterVideo. "By adding
Dolby Virtual Speaker technology to WinDVD Platinum anyone
can watch DVDs on their computer in full surround sound,
with only two speakers."
WinDVD Platinum also includes the more than 30 new features
and enhancements that were added to WinDVD 4 Plus, such
as improved picture quality, easier-to-use Time-Stretching
and Video Desktop - which lets users watch movies under
their desktop icons while working and checking email.
Availability
WinDVD Platinum is available for purchase at InterVideo's
web site at www.intervideo.com and will be available
in retail outlets starting later this month.
